James Ball North Carolina to Marshall County, Tennessee and his descendants

James Ball and Descendants

James Ball was born in 1807 in North Carolina. He married Elizabeth, born in 1812, in North Carolina. They moved to Georgia, then Alabama and finally settled in Marshall County, Tennessee where they both died before 1900. They had 10 children: Daniel, 1830 in North Carolina, married Mary Elizabeth Sims, resided in Alabama until he died in 1904; Richard, were my line comes from, about 1833 in Georgia; Thomas (1835-1920) married Minerva Phillips, probably a sister to his brother Richard’s wife Sarah, then married Emily McCain; John, 1837; Martha, 1839; William, 1832; Young (1843-1925) married Tabitha Alexander (1847) had 3 children, settled in Alabama; Mary, 1846 married William Alexander, may have settled to Alabama; George, 1847 married Elmira Alexander; and Frances, 1858.

Richard Ball was in the Alabama Confederate Army in the Civil War, September 1862- August 1864, with his brother William Ball. Richard married Sarah Elizabeth Phillips in 1861 in Tallapoosa, Alabama. They moved to Marshall County, Tennessee where their children and grandchildren were raised. They had 6 children: John was born 1867 and married Dixie Hill, 25 January 1894, had 10 children, settled in Alabama; Richard Wayne (1868-1950); George Washington (1871-1955); Martha Jane (1875-1949), married James B, Davis (see Davis Family); Sallie Ann (1877-1953) married James Richard “ Bud” Hopkins (1850-1829); Aaron Robertson (1881-1973) married Nora Lague (1877-1932) 3 children.

Richard Wayne Ball was born in Marshall County, Tennessee in 1868. Richard married Lilly Lee Thomas 25 December 1888, in Marshall County. They had 4 children: an infant, died at 2 years, (1892-1894); Samuel, (1894-1958) married Mary Beatrice Rogers (1895-1946) had at least 6 children; Robert Eldridge, (13 Oct 1899-13 June 1920), drown in Duck River; William P, b. ca1904. Lilly was the daughter of Eldridge Thomas and Elizabeth Barnett. Richard and Lillie are buried at Elliot Cemetery in Chapel Hill.

George Washington “Babe” Ball married Clementine “Climmie” Lucinda Horton in Marshall County 23 December 1895. They had 5 children that survived: Maggie, 1899, married James Wortham; Mattie, 1901, married Earl Matteny; Joseph Richard, 1908 married Mary Wright; Bessie, 1911; Ruby, 1916. Climmie was the daughter of Joseph Horton (1847-1917) and Amanda Hix. Babe and Climmie are buried at Swanson Cemetery.

Sallie Ann Ball was the third wife of James Richard “Bud” Hopkins. They had 4 children: Clarissa Elizabeth (1916-2004) married William Franklin Perryman (1907-1968); Gifford (1918-1989) married Mary Elizabeth Moore (1925-1994); Paul, 1920 married Dorothy Hester; Mary Francis (1922-2001) married Charles Frank Holton (1921-1990). Sallie Ann is buried at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill along side her sister, Martha Jane Ball Davis Bowling.

Aaron Robertson married Nora Lague on 5 April 1902. They had 3 children: Mattie, 1903; Fanny, 1905; Mary, 1907. Nora was the daughter of JF Lague and Roxi Fulmon. Aaron and Nora are buried at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.
