The will of Joseph Lashley, Sr. was dated 10/21/1822 and is filed at the St. Clairsville Court House. He died before 3/27/1823 when the Clerk of Courts certified a copy of the will stating that he was deceased. In it he left all his possessions to his second wife, Abigail with the exception of $1.00 to each of the 10 children of his "former wife", Sarah. (It is not clear if she was deceased or if they had been divorced. Note that the first child with his second wife was named Sarah.) In the event that Abigail remarried after his death, the will specified that his last two children, Sarah and Phebe, would inherit 2/3 of his estate when they reached maturity.
