Obituary:

MARTIN -- Ian Richard and Evan Michael Jobe, newborn sons of Jacqueline and Lou Jobe of Martin, died at birth Tuesday at Methodist Hospital of McKenzie. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Morgan Cemetery near Palmersville. Bowlin Funeral Home of Dresden has charge. They also leave three brothers, William Burdette, Kevin Burdette and Clark Burdette, all of Martin; their grandparents, Lynn Longbottom of Fulton, Ky., David L. Lassiter of Dukedom and Louie T. Jobe of Jackson, and their great-grandparents, Masel and Elise Wright of Martin.

A 17-year-old Alamo High
School senior was killed instant-
ly and his 18-year-old compan-
ion, also of Alamo, escaped ser-
ious injury early this morning
when their car skidded out of
control near the intersection of
Highways 18 and 45, south of
Jackson.
William Boyd Thornton was
pronounced dead on arrival at
Jackson-Madison County Gener-
al Hospital.
He was Madison County's first
traffic fatality of the year.
James Elbert Ward, Route 2,
Alamo, driver of the car, sus-
tained bruises and abrasions
and is reported to be in fair
condition at General Hospital.

Young Thornton was the son
of Mrs. Gladys Thornton and
the late Mr. Claude Thornton.
He is survived by two
sisters, Mrs. Barney Smith of
the Nance community near
Alamo and Mrs. Charles Reece
of Alamo.
A senior in high school, he
had worked for several years at
the Alamo Meat Market. He
was a member of the Alamo
Baptist Church.
Services will be held Tuesday
afternoon at 2:30 at Alamo Bap-
tist Church with the Rev. Rob-
ert Benson officiating. Ronk
Funeral Home of Alamo is in
charge of services.

Obituary:

Barney Dorris Smith

Barney Dorris Smith passed away on Sunday, February 4th, three days after celebrating his seventy-ninth birthday with his family. He was the beloved husband of June Thornton Smith for sixty-one years and the devoted father of Pat Whitby and D.J. Kail. Barney will forever be remembered and loved by his five grandchildren: Alan Whitby, Brian Whitby, Connie LaRue, Jill Hartnett, and Anne-Taylor Kail. He was also the proud great "Gran-Gran" of Trace Whitby, Noah and Eden LaRue, and Bailey Ann Whitby.

Barney was the only son of Dorsey and Edna Smith of the Nance Community. He was a life-long member of the Nance Church of Christ where, for several years he dedicated his service as both deacon and elder. Mr. Smith had many loyal friends and customers in Trenton, Tennessee, where he owned and operated Smith's Service Center for over forty years.

The family requests that any memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society at 2935 Hwy. 45 By-Pass, Jackson, Tennessee 38305. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, February 6th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ronk Funeral Home in Alamo, Tennessee. The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 7th at 11 a.m. also at Ronk Funeral Home. The services will conclude at the Nance Church of Christ Cemetery.

Mrs. Gladys Thornton

Services for Mrs. Gladys Thorn-
ton, 58, were held Tuesday at 10
o'clock at Nance Church of Christ
with Wendell Bloomingberg of
Henderson officiating. Burial was
in Center cemetery with Ronk
Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Thornton died Sunday
night at Jackson-Madison County
hospital.
She was the widow of the late
Claude Thornton. She was born
in Crockett County, daughter
the late Terry Hicks and Rena
Sipes Boyd.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs.
Barney Smith and Mrs. Charles
Reece, both of near Alamo; two
sisters, Mrs. Hall Smith and Mrs.
James Hunt, both of near Alamo;
two brothers, C. B. Boyd of
Michigan and David Boyd of
Knoxville; 4 grandchildren.

1267 ||Charles Nelson Lown was the son of Henry Nelson Lown and Nancy Brown. He was born in Barrytown NY and lived and worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the Union Army 8 Oct 1864. He served as a Private in Battery G, 1st N.Y. Light Artillery from date of enlistment until musterd out 19 June 1865. Battery G participated in the decisive fighting around Petersburg, VA that led to the Confederate surrender at Appomattox. After the war he returned to the family farm in Barrytown, NY where he lived and worked until he married Rose E Gruntler on 17 Sept 1878. They had two children before she died in February 1882. Charles N Lown lived most of the remainder of his life in Madalin(now known as Tivoli), NY.
